A/Prof Thomas Naderer is the Deputy Head of the Infection Program within the Biomedicine Discovery Institute at Monash University. His research is focused on host-pathogen interactions with the aim to better understand how infections induce cell death programs. The work includes the discovery that outer membrane vesicles released by bacteria, including human pathogens, target toxins to host cells, activate cell death signalling and inflammation. This has resulted in the discovery of host-targeted approaches to better manage infections that are increasingly difficult to treat.
