I am a post-doctorate research scientist at IBM Research - Australia. I joined IBM early 2013 after having completed a Bachelor's in Biological Sciences and a DPhil in Zoology at the University of Oxford, UK. My interests are primarily focused on the epidemiology and genomic evolution of pathogenic bacteria.
During my graduate studies I investigated the genomic evolution of Streptococcus pneumoniae, with particular focus on the evolution of penicillin-resistance and vaccine-escape. I have also spent time working on similar problems in other bacterial species, most recently Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
As part of my role at IBM I am working in a trans-disciplinary team investigating how we can enable the routine use of next-generation sequencing technologies in clinical and public health microbiology laboratories.
