Dr Chris Harmer is a senior Postdoctoral Research Associate in Microbiology in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Sydney. His current research takes a molecular approach to studing the small mobile genetic elements and plasmids that are responsible for the spread of antibiotic resistance genes in Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria, with a view to curtailing the spread of resistance genes via improved surveillance and epidemiological interventions.
